Julie Spaniel, DDS
Dr Julie Spaniel graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1991. After her residency at the VA Medical Center and group private practice in Portland, Oregon she moved with her family to the Burlington area. A native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Julie and her family was looking for the quality of life that Vermont offers.
Dr Spaniel took a Rural Health Center position upon relocation and in 1995, Dr Spaniel assumed the 10 year private practice of Dr LeeAnn Podruch. With many of the original staff, Dr Spaniel has continued her ambitions to, not only, provide the highest quality dental care but to emphasize the importance of dental health on overall body wellness. With over 25 years of experience in the field of dentistry, Dr Spaniel has constantly strived to improve the practice with the latest technology. Assuming the name Sprucewood Dental Associates, Dr Spaniel boasts one of the most experienced office and clinical staffs in the industry. With a strong emphasis on continuing education in the dental field and technology, Sprucewood Dental Associates has become a lead office for the benefit of all patients.
Dr Spaniel is an active member since 1987 of the American Dental Association and Vermont State Dental Society membership in 1994. Member of the American Association for Dental Practice Administration and American Association of Oral Systemic Health which has caused to evolve the practice in the importance of holistic approach to dental health for whole body health and wellness.
Dr Spaniel continues to be actively involved in Global Dental Relief and aid organizations. As a former member of the Burlington Rotary and Paul Harris Award recipient, Julie got involved with the Rotary supported organization, Hands to Honduras in 2006. Donating her time, money and talents to this organization to provide dental care to the poorest patients in the world, Julie also works for the student-led group of Global Brigade, Inc in Ghana and Nicaragua. Aid work continues to be Julie’s passion locally and in many corners of the world.
Julie and her husband, Adam Tarr, of 22 years, are blessed to have 4 grown children. Graduates of Rice Memorial High School, Nick, Emily, Adam Jr and Christian are the center of their life.
LeeAnn Podruch, DDS
Dr. LeeAnn Podruch graduated from Marquette University School of Dentistry in 1976 and has practiced dentistry in Vermont since then. In 1995 Dr. Julie Spaniel purchased the practice and they have practiced together since that time. In 1998 Dr. Podruch graduated from Vermont Law School.
In addition to practicing dentistry and law, LeeAnn has been a member of the North East Regional Board of Dental Examiners, Inc., for over twenty-five years. She currently serves as Secretary of the NERB. LeeAnn is actively involved in the clinical testing of dentists and dental hygienists for licensure where she applies both her dental and legal expertise.
LeeAnn is married to David L. Johnson, MD and together they have two young adult children, Emily and Alex. LeeAnn has been active showing Silky Terriers for over 30 years and is past President of the Silky Terrier Club of America.
Dr. Holly Maier, DMD
Dr. Maier is a graduate of the University of Connecticut Dental School. She attended the University of Vermont on a full basketball scholarship, where she majored in Biology and minored in Chemistry. She also attended Harwood Union High School in Duxbury VT where she is the all-time leading scorer in basketball for boys and girls. Dr. Maier is married and enjoys spending time with her husband Andy and their three sons (age 2,4, and 6) She enjoys playing/coaching basketball, running, cycling, skiing, knitting and oil painting.
Brenda Titus, Office Administrator
With over 20 years of dental office administration, Brenda does the scheduling, data entry and insurance processing. She also takes care of statement billing, payroll, financial arrangements, and Care Credit applications. She is a certified dental assistant and graduated from Champlain College with an Associate Degree in dental assisting and office management. Brenda is a native Vermonter. She and her husband Tracy have two children, Sam and David. In her free time Brenda enjoys gardening, music, and entertaining.
Judy Jones, CDA, EFDA
Judy is an expanded function dental assistant with over 20 years of experience. She attended Green Mountain College and completed the Expanded Function Program in 2002. She and her husband Dean have two children, Hilary and Jessie, and two grandchildren, McKayla and Tyler. Judy enjoys hiking, snowshoeing and motorcycling.
Ellen George, RDH
Ellen graduated from UVM in 1976 with a degree in Dental Hygiene. She has been a practicing hygienist in our office for over twenty years. Ellen also enjoys working at the front office. She has three daughters living in the area and resides in Shelburne with her husband Bill, an avid golfer. Her interests include reading, decorating, sewing, fitness, planning adventures and trying to learn to love golf.
Lisa Peter, RDH
A native Vermonter, Lisa graduated from Rice High School in 1976 and the UVM school of Dental Hygiene in 1978. She lives in South Burlington with her husband, Jim and their French bulldog, Miles. Two adult children, Erika and Matthew live nearby. Lisa enjoys golf and traveling
Kris Magnant, RDH
Kris completed the Dental Assisting Program at the Essex Technical Center and then continued on to study dental hygiene. She graduated from the University of Vermont, School of Dental Hygiene and has been practicing dental hygienist since 1984. Kris and her husband have a son and a daughter. She enjoys hiking, biking, and snowshoeing with her family as well as flower gardening, knitting, and reading.
Fayne Cayea, CDA
Fayne is a certified dental assistant with extensive experience in all aspects of dental assisting. Fayne is a graduate of Essex Technical Center and has her radiology certification. She is a native Vermonter with two children Sarah and Scott. Fayne enjoys crafts, cycling, fitness and spending time with her husband Ted at their camp in the Adirondacks.
Toni Sneddon, CDA, RDH
Toni began her career in dentistry in 1987 as a Certified Dental Assistant. She returned to school and graduated from Hudson Valley College in New York with a degree in dental Hygiene. Toni moved to Vermont in 2003 when her husband, Kevin, was named the Men’s Hockey coach at the University of Vermont. They have one daughter, Gabrielle, and live here in South Burlington. Toni is currently working part-time and volunteers at Christ the King school in Burlington where her daughter in enrolled. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, exercising, family activities, and following NCAA hockey.
Dr. Samantha Leduc, CDA
Sam is a certified dental assistant who joined our practice in 2007. She is trained in all aspects of dental assisting and especially enjoys fabricating temporary crowns. Sam lives in Colchester with her husband Cory, their son Remington, and her two stepchildren, Lucy and William. When she is not busy with family activities Sam enjoys riding and showing horses.
Theresa Schneider, RDH
Theresa is a native Vermonter who graduated from the University of Vermont with a degree in Dental Hygiene. She and her husband Mark live in Williston and have two grown sons, Samuel and Elliot. Her interests include flower and vegetable gardening, cooking and spending time with family. She also loves getting to know her patients on a one to one basis, forming a long term relationship with them.
Makesha Heath, TDA
Makesha completed the dental assisting program as senior class president at the Essex Technical Center. There, she was a member of the honor society and is a girls state alumni. She was awarded the “Community Service Award” and “Most Outstanding Dental Assistant” for the state of Vermont in 1999. That same year, she studied Interpersonal Communications at Champlain College. A native Vermonter, she enjoys gardening, fishing, camping, berry picking and spending time with her family. Makesha and Nate reside in South Burlington with their two beautiful daughters Monica Marie and Daphne Rose.
